WHY the Neuroscience Research (NSR) Grants?
NSR is designed to offer young medically-qualified neuroscientists
the opportunity to obtain funds to conduct their own state of the
art research, benefiting the Australian Medical community and contributing
to our knowledge of neuroscience.
HOW much investment will be made for the NSR Grants?
Pfizer Australia will commit AUD$300,000 per annum to this initiative. Research
Grants will be allocated through a panel of Australian physicians
of the highest calibre in the field of neuroscience.
WHAT will be the amount of a NSR Grant?
A NSR Grant would be up to AUD$44,000 (including GST) and is provided
for a period of one year.
HOW will the NSR Grants be assessed?
NSR has adopted a similar approach to NH&MRC, hence initial
assessment of applications will be made by independent external
referees and the ultimate assessment and decision will be made by
the Australian Physicians Independent Committee (APIC). Proposals
for therapeutic trials involving neuroscience drugs will be referred
to the Pfizer Head Office in New York before following the same
process.
WHAT is the composition of the Australian Physicians
Independent Committee?
In 2007, the APIC is composed of the following leading physicians
from around Australia:
- Professor Henry Brodaty
- Professor Tess Cramond
- Associate Professor Martin Delatycki
- Professor Graeme Hankey
- Dr Chris Levi
- Professor Christos Pantelis
- Professor Gordon Parker
- Professor Michael Cousins
- Professor Peter W. Schofield
- Professor Robert Henderson
Administrative support will be provided by the Secretariat, which
comprises medical/ administrative staff from Pfizer Australia.
